joiejoiejoie, 2006 EP

Clément Marion is French and currently living in Belgium. He's the kind of songwriter that would attract the attention of people who dig Sofia Coppola's soundtracks. Guitar strings from an imaginary futurist languid sunset in France, dream landscapes to whistle cheerfully non-stop -la joie joie joie-. A cabalistic seven as the number of themes that inspire the search of an alternate reality, and letting out the child within. Open those windows, let that warm and summer air fill your body, this is sweetest way to say good bye to that inevitable summer love.

Text: Javier Audirac.

Sunday Parlours/ Anois, Split EP

This is the kind of music you'd put together on a mixtape for one of those romantically hurtful soundtracks we all have lying around in our thoughts. Remember when hooking up split EPs was intriguing and exciting? Those times when two of your favorite bands were put together in one short record, just for the experience of sharing a couple of songs to each other?

Fortunately, these times are still going on, in different formats indeed, but the spirit can hardly be denied. Anois and Sunday Parlours mean so much to our label that the minute we heard this, we just stood there overwhelmed, kind of like when you have a crush. Silently happy.

Both projects were inevitably put together by destiny -or by accident, as Malte from Sunday Parlours says they met-, and we're absolutely celebrating the fact that we were able to put this release out to you for free. Somewhere between the development of Anois' forthcoming debut album and the latest release of Sunday Parlours, both couples were kind enough to gather a handful of precious folk pop lullabies for us.

Honest sounds, creative passages and pretty enjoyable nostalgic lyrics great for a weekend to stay home, open up that forgotten box of memories and abandon yourself to a set of melancholic whispers.

Nuuro, Paper Heart EP

We met Alejandro Ghersi when he used to be a 16 year old indietronic emo kid from Venezuela. He was too shy to sing on his own, he wouldn't even dare to play a guitar alone, yet, he kept trying until the point he found himself in New York City, living on his own, with one LP recorded, various songs in respected compilations such as annual Darla's "secrets", and more recently, two EPs.

This is the latter, and it's his deepest, most mature, and heartbreaking work so far. Downtempo, vocoders and deep atmospheres that become the menu of a banquet to which all can access, but only a few will be fortunate to be pleased with. A five-piece EP that will remain as one of Ghersi's cult jewels from here to a very long time.

Sappho, The Civilized Thing To Do

"These mexican youngsters present their home-made debut under the title The Civilized Thing To Do. They recall the crash of the classic Wall of Sound, circa Loveless, against Pavement's roughest work passing through Brian Wilson's Smile spirit. Not quite a civilized act... but these guys know how to throw acid parties."

Or so they say...

Either way, except for Sappho, there is absolutely no other band based in Mexico that resembles, with such elegance and tenderness, the greatest moments of indie rock's dearest and everlasting road. Just ask Kramer what he thought about these kids.

Sappho disbanded late 2007. This is the only album they ever recorded.
